A little goes a long way with Steccawood

A little goes a long way with Steccawood
polytec Steccawood is a range of prefinished decorative battens designed for internal applications. Manufactured from E0 MDF or LDF and wrapped in a decorative overlay, the battens provide a simple way to introduce profile, texture and repetition into residential and commercial interiors.

Steccawood does not need to cover an entire wall to be effective. It can be used in smaller, targeted areas such as kitchen islands, bar backs, reception counters, ceiling features, bedheads, bookcases, behind open shelving, alcoves and other joinery details. It can also be installed vertically or horizontally, and selected profiles can be used around curved joinery.

One of the key benefits of Steccawood is the ability to coordinate it with other polytec surfaces.

Steccawood battens are available across timberprints, stone and marble designs, as well as Black and a Raw option for custom paint applications. This allows Steccawood to match surrounding cabinetry and surfaces, complement an existing palette, or introduce a contrasting material detail.

Woodmatt and Ravine options provide embossed timber finishes, while Smooth includes stone and marble designs such as Marmo di Monte, Marmo di Torre, Portland Stone and Athena Stone.

For example, a stone-print Steccawood profile can continue the look of a matching benchtop onto a bar back or island. A timberprint can connect shelving with surrounding joinery, while Black can be used to introduce contrast.

Choose the profile to suit the application

The profile and size of the batten changes the scale and repetition of the finished installation. The current range includes Standard, Half Round and Cove profiles:

The Cove profile has splayed edges designed to form a 300mm diameter curve, making it particularly useful for kitchen islands and curved joinery.

How is Steccawood installed?

Steccawood is installed as individual battens, giving the designer and installer control over orientation, spacing and coverage.

Before installation, the fixing surface needs to be dry and free from dust, debris and grease. Battens can be cut to length, but should not be cut in a lineal direction. Cut ends need to be sealed before installation to help prevent moisture ingress.

The fixing method will depend on the application. Where circumstances allow, polytec recommends using both a flexible construction-grade adhesive and mechanical fasteners. The installation guide also identifies fixing options including Striplox Clip 50, Striplox Pro 23 and Lincoln Sentry Type 1 Flush Button Fix. Ceiling and partition applications may require an engineered fixing solution depending on the structure, batten weight and fixing points.

Know where to use it.

Steccawood is an internal product. It should not be used in wet areas, areas of high humidity, or where it will be exposed to steam and heat. polytec recommends installing it at least 100mm above floor level to reduce the risk of damage from cleaning and moisture.

The opportunity with Steccawood is not necessarily about using more of it. It is about selecting the right profile, finish and location to elevate any project where detail and texture matters. You can find many examples and inspiration of residential and commercial use of Steccawood on our projects page or read the brochure for colours and information.
