Introducing ESSENCE™: polytec’s New Earth-Inspired Solid Colours

Introducing ESSENCE™: polytec’s New Earth-Inspired Solid Colours
Australia’s interiors are becoming warmer, softer and more connected to the natural landscape. As design trends continue shifting away from cool greys and stark whites, architects and designers are embracing earthy tones inspired by clay, sandstone, weathered coastlines and the raw textures of the Australian environment.

Introducing ESSENCE™ by polytec, a new collection of six solid colours designed to reflect the quiet beauty of the land. Inspired by Australia from the ground up, the palette captures the warmth of sunbaked earth, layered stone, mineral textures and softened natural tones to create interiors that feel grounded, timeless and distinctly Australian.

Created to complement the popular 12 Boston Oak colourways and the timeless existing polytec pallet, ESSENCE™ brings warmth and versatility to both residential and commercial interiors.

The Essence Collection Draws Inspiration from:

  • Sunbaked earth and layered stone
  • Weathered coastlines and soft coastal tones
  • Native landscapes and desert flora
  • Aerial views of Australia’s natural terrain

The collection is grounded in “the quiet beauty of the land,” with colours that feel earthy, softened and timeless. As designers move away from cool greys and stark whites, earthy palettes continue growing in demand across kitchens, wardrobes, hospitality spaces and commercial projects.

The Shift from Greens to Grounded Earth Tones

Over the past few years, interior design trends have been heavily influenced by biophilic design, with soft greens, eucalyptus tones and muted blues dominating residential and commercial spaces. Inspired by nature, these colours created a sense of calm, wellness and connection to the outdoors. Now, that palette is evolving.

Designers are shifting beyond foliage-inspired hues and looking toward the landscape itself. The inspiration is no longer just found in foliage, leaves and water, but in the earth beneath them. Clay, sandstone, weathered rock, mineral textures, desert soils and sunbaked terrain are becoming the new direction for contemporary interiors. This movement reflects a growing desire for spaces that feel warmer, more grounded and emotionally connected to place.

The ESSENCE™ collection captures this shift through six colours inspired by:

  • Raw clay and terracotta
  • Sandstone formations
  • Weathered coastlines
  • Layered rock and mineral tones
  • Dusty earth and native landscapes
  • Soft, aged natural textures

Rather than cool minimalism, these tones embrace warmth, depth and softness. Colours like Nomad™ and Solara™ reference baked clay and terracotta, while Wild Clay™, Wispwood™ and Dawnshade™ draw from stone, sand and weathered coastal textures. Even Lightstone™ introduces a softer, rearthier approach to white.

Meet the Six New ESSENCE™ Colours

Nomad™

Nomad™ is a warm baked terracotta designed to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Inspired by earthy clay tones found throughout the Australian outback, it works beautifully as a feature colour in kitchens, bathrooms and statement joinery. Its soft pink undertone pairs seamlessly with timber décors including Boston Oak™, Manor Oak™ and Hazel Oak™ as well a bolder colours such as Topiary, Habitat and Navy

Solara™

Solara™ captures the warmth of raw terracotta in a softer, lighter neutral. Its sun-washed appearance makes it ideal for tonal interiors and minimalist spaces wanting warmth without overpowering the room. Solara™ pairs particularly well with Blonde Oak™, Ecru Oak™ and natural stone look surfaces like Marmo di Torre.

Wild Clay™

Wild Clay™ sits between warm grey and muted green, offering a grounded neutral that feels calm and architectural. Its earthy undertones make it highly versatile across both residential and commercial interiors, especially when paired with green-based timberprints such as, Botany Oak™ and Laurel Oak™.

Wispwood™

Wispwood™ is a soft weathered neutral inspired by aged timber and natural stone. It brings a quiet warmth into interiors while still feeling clean and contemporary. Perfect for layering with all the Boston Oak Woodmatt Colourways, Wispwood™ works effortlessly in coastal homes, minimalist kitchens and soft neutral palettes.

Dawnshade™

Dawnshade™ is a modern champagne beige with cooler undertones that gives interiors a subtle softness. Designed to complement beige-based timbers and natural stone finishes, it creates a calming, understated look suited to luxury residential and commercial spaces alike. Pairs effortlessly with the Boston Oak colourways, Notaio Walnut and stronger solids like Adriatic and Forage.

Lightstone™

Lightstone™ is a soft pink-based white offering a warmer alternative to stark white cabinetry. Its subtle warmth allows it to work harmoniously with a wide range of timberprint décors, particularly Blonde Oak™ and Ecru Oak™, making it ideal for seamless, light-filled interiors.

Why Earthy Colours Are Trending

The growing demand for earthy interiors is being driven by:

  • Biophilic design trends
  • Wellness-focused spaces
  • Warm minimalist interiors
  • Timeless natural palettes
  • Softer alternatives to grey and white

These colours are designed to work across a wide range of applications, including kitchens, wardrobes, workspaces and commercial interiors.

A Collection Designed to Endure

Beyond aesthetics, the ESSENCE™ range delivers durable, low-maintenance surfaces suitable for everyday living and commercial use. The collection allows designers, cabinet makers and homeowners to create warm, layered interiors that feel distinctly Australian.

The result is a palette that feels grounded, versatile and perfectly suited to the future of Australian interior design.
