7 Reasons to Specify Laminate Before You Commit to Stone & Four New Colours by polytec That Might Just Change Your Mind.
Natural stone has long held a certain status in interior design and for good reason. But before you lock in your next specification, there are some things worth knowing about what modern laminate surfaces can actually deliver, as the gap between stone and laminate has never been smaller.

7 Things to Know Before You Specify Stone

polytec has just released four new natural stone-inspired colours across its Benchtops, and Laminate ranges: Ivorio Travertine™, Beige Travertine™, Taj Mahal™ and Grey Taj™. All four are available now.

1. Laminate now genuinely looks like stone. Advanced digital printing and high-definition surface embossing mean today's laminate surfaces capture the linear movement, tonal variation and porous detailing of natural stone with a level of realism that surprises even seasoned specifiers. The new polytec Travertine and quartzite-inspired Taj décors are a perfect case in point.

2. The Smooth finish is certified antibacterial. Every polytec Benchtop and Laminate surface in a Smooth or Matt finish carries a certified antibacterial property. The non-porous surface inhibits bacterial growth, a meaningful advantage for hospitals, aged care facilities, schools and any commercial project where hygiene compliance matters.

3. Maintenance is dramatically simpler. Natural stone, particularly marble and travertine, can be porous and requires regular sealing and specialist care. polytec laminate surfaces are stain-resistant and need nothing more than a damp cloth and mild detergent to clean. Less maintenance means lower lifecycle cost.

4. You get design consistency across a project. No two natural stone slabs are identical. For large-scale or multi-room projects, matching stone can be genuinely difficult. Laminate delivers consistent colour and finish across sheets every time — important for commercial fit-outs, multi-residential developments and staged project delivery.

5. It works across far more applications. The new stone colours are available across benchtops, laminate sheets with the two new Taj colourways also available in Xenolith® (15mm and 5mm) meaning the same décor can run across a kitchen benchtop, splashback, wall panelling, vanity, and cabinetry within a single, connected material palette.

6. It ticks the boxes your projects actually need. When a project requires Green Star credits or WELL compliance, material certification matters. polytec's Compact Laminate, High Pressure Laminate and Xenolith are all certified Global GreenTag GreenRate Level A, supporting credits across responsible finishes, indoor pollutants and sustainable products. Substrates are Chain of Custody certified to PEFC and Responsible Wood standards. The paperwork is there when you need it.

7. It's Australian Made. All polytec benchtops, and Xenolith benchtops products are Australian Made and Owned certified, manufactured using responsibly sourced, certified timber substrates. Specifying polytec supports local manufacturing, local jobs and a more considered supply chain.
